The class „Climate Change, Disaster Mitigation and Security in Buildings“ is about Architecture incorporated in the differente phases of crisis management. It is not only the reconstruction of destroyed buildings after ecological disasters, furthermore the essential part is the consideration, the preventation and integration of thoughts during the different design steps of the building in endangered areas. Tasks like these often need an cooperation with civil engineers to get the best out of it.

The example building here fullfills two functions:
on the one hand it is an arena for events (e.g. basketball, concerts) and on the other hand it is designed to resist to natural disasters and serve as a refuge center in the event of an earthquake for instance in endangered areas such as Japan.
